Model Hospital (Department of Health)

By Tom Foley.

The Carter Review1 identified unwarranted variation in running costs, sickness absence, infection rates and prices paid for supplies and services between providers. As part of the review, a ‘model hospital’ was developed, which links provider data, to allow hospitals to measure their financial performance, across many metrics, against other trusts. It was estimated that reducing these variations could save the NHS £5bn per year.
